The wax method of egg decorating is called "pisanki," where a special tool is used to apply liquid wax to create designs on an egg, which is then dipped in dye, allowing the waxed areas to remain the original color, resulting in a multi-colored pattern when the wax is later removed, essentially a form of batik technique. The tradition of egg dyeing dates back to Ancient Mesopotamia.

The Folk Art Gallery features artifacts of folk origin which display great artistic or historic value made in Poland and abroad. Some of the items on display were made after 1950 but due to their artistic merit, we made an exception and included them. On display, you can find a typical roadside shrine honoring a loved one hung on a birch tree, paper cutouts known as Wycinaki, numerous wood engravings (including sorrowful Jesus as well as pagan themes), a large collection of Easter eggs known as Pisanki, Kraków crèches or Szopki, items used during Christmas time and many more.
